What does a pre-trip inspection cover?

The pre-trip check is a quick visual inspection: what you can see around the vehicle, what you hear after starting it and what the dashboard shows. Its purpose is to catch a fault before the vehicle leaves.

Adjust the scope to the vehicle type. A van differs from a tractor-trailer combination, and both differ from a vehicle with a tail lift or refrigeration unit.

Who should perform the check?

The driver is best placed to do it — they are with the vehicle every day and notice changes fastest. The dispatcher or fleet manager reacts to reports and makes sure faults reach the workshop.

Reporting has to be easy. If it needs a phone call and an email, some remarks will simply never be made.

Vehicle checks with QR or NFC

A QR sticker in the cab or an NFC tag by the door starts the inspection with one scan. The driver does not look for a form and the system already knows which vehicle it is.

A photo of the fault can be attached, and the inspection history stays with the vehicle — it is easy to see when and by whom it was checked.
