What to check before starting a machine

The daily check does not replace a technical inspection — it is there to catch what can be seen and heard: a missing guard, a leak, a worn cable, unusual vibration or an illegible label on the panel.

A good list is short and specific. Instead of asking whether the machine is fit for use, check individual items that can be answered clearly: yes, no or not applicable.

The most common findings

The repeats are usually: removed or bypassed guards, emergency stops that do not work, hydraulic leaks, neglected lubrication and clutter around the workstation that blocks escape.

A separate category is faults reported earlier and never fixed. When the same remark returns in consecutive inspections, it means the problem never reached the maintenance plan.
